+# Host Naming Convention
+
+## Standard Format
+
+All hosts in the hobbs.farm infrastructure follow this naming convention:
+

+
+### Compute Hosts (Docker/VM)
+Named after characters/references with memorable, easy-to-type names.
+

+Named by function.

+## Rules
+
+1. **Lowercase only** - No capitals in hostnames
+2. **No special characters** - Letters and numbers only, hyphens for qualifiers
+3. **Short and memorable** - Max 10 characters preferred
+4. **DNS registered** - All hosts get `<name>.hobbs.farm` entries
+5. **Static IPs** - All infrastructure hosts use DHCP reservations or static IPs
+
+## IP Allocation

+| 192.168.86.100-199 | DHCP clients |

+## Adding New Hosts
+
+1. Choose name following convention
+2. Assign static IP in appropriate range
+3. Create DHCP reservation in Firewalla
+4. Add DNS entry for `<name>.hobbs.farm`
+5. Document in this wiki
+6. Add to Ansible inventory
+
